JCHX Mining Construction (Z) Limited is a well established mining contracting Company in Zambia and is currently looking for highly – motivated and qualified individuals for the position of:-

SAFETY OFFICER

This position reports to the Safety Superintendent.

Job Purpose

The Safety Officer is responsible for monitoring and assessing compliance to the safety management system requirements and conduct continuous coaching/awareness to create an environment that is conducive to safe production.

The duties will include the following:

  • Conducting inspections, audits and coaching to ensure understanding and compliance to safety management system, standards and requirements.
  • Conducting safety awareness programs and identify training requirements.
  • Conducting incident investigations and facilitating issue-based risk assessment.
  • Ensures the implementation of remedial measures and controls to prevent a re-occurrence of similar incidents.
  • Assists with the implementation of the safety management system. the Site Safety and Health Plan is prepared and implemented.
  • To address unsafe acts or conditions through the regular line of authority, although the Safety Officer may exercise emergency authority to prevent or stop unsafe acts when immediate action is required.
  • Prepare reports on occurrences and provide statistical information to management.
  • Conducting inductions, auditing legal documents and managing business partners.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Grade 12 School Certificate, First Aid Certificate, Blasting License or Trade Certificate
  • Minimum of a Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety obtained from a recognized institution.
  • 3 years minimum work experience gained in the mining industry i.e. having background work experience in mining or engineering disciplines and experience in implementation of Health and Safety Management Systems.
  • Experience in writing reports and policies for health and safety.
  • Proficient in MS Office; Working knowledge of safety management information systems is a plus.
  • Member of  Zambia Occupational Health and Safety Association (ZOHSA) will be an added advantage.
