Description

Aller Aqua Zambia Ltd. is seeking a highly analytical, meticulous and hands-on Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) Officer with extensive experience in Safety, Health and Environment. The SHE Officer will be responsible for overall implementation and maintenance of a SHE management system that will create and maintain a safe workplace. As a safety officer you must have excellent attention to detail to identify hazards. You will also be able to discover opportunities for improving conditions and execute various safety programs. The ability to communicate guidelines to a multidisciplinary workforce is essential. The goal is to ensure the workplace meets all legal expectations and actively supports occupational health and safety. The SHE Officer will report to the company CEO and will also work closely with the Group E&S Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the overall implementation and maintenance of the SHE management system to establish a culture of health and safety which reduces the business SHE risk.
  • Develop and execute health and safety plans and policies in the workplace according to legal guidelines.
  • Introduce, motivate and champion SHE best practices, and customize to suit business needs.
  • Monitor day to day business activities and ensure all business activities meet Company and  legislative SHE requirements.
  • Conduct & carryout internal SHE compliance audits; report on findings and manage corrective action plans through to completion.
  • SHE information collation and reporting on SHE performance against defined objectives and targets in line with business and corporate requirements.
  • Conduct training and presentations for health and safety matters and accident prevention.
  • Performing SHE Risk Assessment and development of safe work procedures to mitigate identified risks.
  • Inspect equipment and machinery to observe possible unsafe conditions.
  • Investigate accidents or incidents to discover underlying causes and identify trends and suggest improvement plans.
  • Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Co-ordinate SHE related contractors e.g. Fire Equipment Maintenance.
  • Formulate and prepare legal appointments in terms of regulatory and system requirements.
  • Provide technical support to Senior Management on any SHE related matters.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Tertiary Qualification in Occupational Health and Safety or Bachelor’s Degree of any Science or other relevant qualification.
  • Proven experience as SHE manager/officer with at least 5 years’ experience and excellent track record with maintenance and continuous improvement of SHE within a plant.
  • Deep understanding of legal SHE guidelines in Zambia; Must have working knowledge and experience of OHS Act and Compensation for Occupational Injury and Disease Act, Environmental Legislation and other relevant Legislation.
  • Good knowledge and experience with hazard identification and risk assessment.
  • IT literate and a comprehensive understanding of Windows based programmes to include Word, Excel and Outlook is essential.
  • Ability in producing reports and developing relevant policies and procedures;
  • Excellent organizational and motivational skills.
  • Ability to work well independently and in a team-based environment.
  • Familiarity with SHE management systems such as OHSAS 18001, ISO45001, ISO14001 preferable.
  • Understanding of International standards of best practice pertaining to SHE is an added advantage.

  • Great Attendance: Must be able to maintain attendance (48 hour/week) and work with limited supervision.
  • Judgment: Demonstrate professional judgment, relate all information and data to management.
  • Flexibility: Ability to work a schedule outside business hours and/or flexible shifts. Adaptability to changing business needs, conditions and work responsibilities.
