BCP is a leading African forest carbon company.  We are working with community and Government partners to help conserve over 1 million hectares of globally significant wildlife habitats, and to benefit 100,000 people.

BCP is recruiting for a Director, Operations to guide BCP into a new phase of community impacts, institutional building, and pro-poor policy support.

The primary responsibilities of the Director are to drive community livelihood projects, to build stronger community institutions, to work closely with Government on advancing pro-poor forest policy, to build management capacity in BCP’s next generation of leaders, and to keep BCP at the forefront of exceptional community benefits.

The position oversees the Engagement Team dealing with FPIC, community engagement, obtaining agreements, the implementation of CBNRM, governance strengthening of community institutions, conservation management, law enforcement, grievance resolution, and policy support and advocacy.  The position requires advanced forest program management skills, conducting field work in rural Africa, excellent English writing skills, knowledge of community forestry methodologies, as well as a willingness to live in rural Zambia.

This role will also involve a leadership role within BCP’s Executive management, Operations Management and Leadership Development Teams.  This role has the exciting opportunity to lead BCP’s main advantage of triple gold REDD+ projects.  The position will require some travel to rural areas, mainly in Africa. The candidate is expected to be an experienced manager, solid team player, outcomes-driven self-starter.

STUFF WE’LL TRUST YOU WITH.

  • Implement BCP’s ‘Beyond Subsistence Livelihood Strategy’.
  • Obtain recognition for CFMGs, and rights agreements.
  • Oversee implementation of Chiefdom Conservation Plans and Forest Management Plans, including the revision and development of plans as needed.
  • Design a CCB triple gold verifiable set of community impacts benefitting 100,000 people plus.
  • Build systems and capacity at community institutional level to ensure carbon funds are used efficiently.
  • Partner Coordination: Develop and maintain strong relationships from local and national level stakeholders, and manage sub-contracts and sub-grants to partners.  Contribute to the development of formal agreements between the GRZ and community leaders, Traditional Authorities, and local/provincial governments to ensure cooperation between stakeholders in creation of lasting REDD+ Agreements.
  • Be able to train in management, leadership and systems.
  • Set comprehensive goals for individual and team performance and growth and ensure adequate training to improve skills and performance
  • Resource mobilization through writing proposals and reports as needed.
  • Strategy: Contribute to the development of BCP’s strategic goals and objectives as well as the overall management of the organization.  Ensure that BCP is adhering to a strategic plan, delivering status reports to the board.
  • Policy: Lead high level policy engagement and reform initiatives.
  • Community Engagement: Support the BCP Trust to promote alternative livelihood strategies.
  • Budget Management and Reporting: Oversee REDD+ Zone budgeting and relevant reporting.
  • Forest Carbon Project Verification: Contribute operationally and administratively to successful forest carbon project verification.
