CARE International in Zambia has partnered with World Food Program – WFP in the implementation of the The Scaling Up Nutrition Business Network (SBN), co-convened by National Food and Nutrition Commission, whose aim is promoting increased private sector participation in the national nutrition agenda. This project is designed to contribute to an enhanced food and nutrition situation in Zambia through the use of the Good Food Logo which aims to improve the production and distribution of nutritious and healthier foods, and the knowledge and practice on healthier diet and generating evidence.

CARE International, under this partnership with WFP, is seeking to recruit a qualified and experienced professional for the following position to be based at Head office in Lusaka;

Job Title: Project Management Coordinator – Good Food Logo Promotion

Job summary:

The Project Management Coordinator will be responsible for delivering all aspects of the Good Food Logo promotion by working closely with our partners in providing appropriate leadership to staff and other stakeholders. Through this engagement, SBN is supporting the Zambia Bureau of Standards to launch and implement a front-of-pack label called the “Good Food Logo to be placed on processed food products that meet specific nutritional criteria. The Good Food Logo will be launched alongside a healthy diet campaign (social behavioural change campaign) supported by National Food and Nutrition Commission and Ministry of Health that will use the logo as a tool to create awareness about the consumption of more nutritious food products.

Key Responsibilities and Deliverables

  • Identify and utilize community nutrition champions to influence behaviour change regarding the consumption of healthier diets and consumption of processed foods carrying the Good Food Logo and promote in selected schools
  • Facilitate trainings for teacher parent association members on nutrition and Good Food Logo promotion
  • Facilitate trainings for community health entrepreneurs (CHEs) on key nutrition messages focusing on prevention of micronutrient deficiency and obesity
  • Organize and undertake community-based social behavior change communication (SBCC) activities such as drama to increase consumer awareness around healthy food options and encourage prioritization of these products over less healthier products
  • Promote the Good Food Logo within selected public places – e.g. markets, health facilities
  • Distribute and promote educational materials within selected schools and health facilities
  • Work with government (e.g. NFNC, MoGE, MinHealth) and private-sector partners (retailers) to promote the Good Food Logo and nutritional messages to key stakeholders. Works to establish and maintain constructive business relationships with these stakeholders in a timely and efficient way while working within CARE Zambia, with peer NGOs, and with affected communities to set up and manage information channels and tools required for project.
  • Prepares quality narrative reports as required by the donor and plans and leads workshops with key stakeholders, to ensure agreement and buy-in to proposed plans.
  • In support with WFP, manages the implementation of the protocols for monitoring, evaluating, managing and reporting project quality and deliverables
  • Ensure project maintains budgetary and financial controls to account for and report on the utilization of project assets.
  • Participates in long-range strategic planning exercises and contributes professional expertise and operational experience to the development of strategies for CARE Zambia programs; acts as an advocate and change leader for best practices in project management methods, techniques, tools and technologies.
  • Document and disseminate project learnings including the development of case studies, and participate in forums where project lessons can be disseminated,
  • Adheres to all Organisation policies, procedures and business ethics and ensure that they are communicated and implemented within the team.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • Degree in Social Sciences, Nutrition, Public Health, or Development Studies
  • 3 – 5 years relevant work experience.
  • Knowledge of nutrition and social behavior change communications is an added advantage
  • Experience in project management with at least three years in managing projects involving multi partners and stakeholders is an added advantage
  • Demonstrated ability to write reports, cases studies and communication documents
  • Proven business and marketing skills is an added advantage
  • Proven ability to make project-related decisions involving budgets, assets and approaches.
  • Ability to proactively manage relationships with donors, government, partners, other CARE members and recipient communities.
  • Able to inspire a team approach, and work within and between the CARE and Live Well teams
