TELLERS (LUSAKA & COPPERBELT REGION)

Job Title: TELLER

Reports to: HEAD TELLER

1. PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Effective performance of cashiering duties and other related payments with responsibility for ensuring World Class customer service and total customer satisfaction

2. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Ensure that you are familiar with the procedures and regulations governing Cashiering duties and the expectations of customers and Ecobank Group.

Your responsibility will include:

  • Receiving of cheques and cash for deposit into customer’s accounts (Local and Foreign currencies as directed by your branch head).
  • Payments of cheques and other instruments in both local and foreign currencies presented at the counter
  • Balance the days’ cashiering work before close of business
  • Ensure that both vault and cashiers till balance daily with the general ledger balance
  • Accepting payments for utilities – electricity, water and Telecom
  • Prepare all returns related to cash duties at the branch
  • May be called upon to undertake Deposit / Cash mobilization activities when the need arises.
  • Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the branch head/operations officer from time to time.
  • Ensure that all transactions are carried out in a timely manner and in line with Group procedures and agreed Service Level Agreement
  • Minimize potential for losses arising from errors and frauds by doing the required call back and account reconciliations.
  • Manage risk in every transaction
  • Introduce new products and services to customers
  • Communicate with customers in a polite manner and assess customer needs and wants
  • Make sales referrals

Other: To carry out additional duties as instructed and approved by the supervisor.

3. JOB CONTEXT

In this position proper Judgment is required on a day to day basis when:

  • Paying out to customers.
  • Cross selling of the bank’s products and services.
  • Deciding on the right type of products to meet the needs of individual customers.
  • Planning and execution of duties.
  • Comply with all policy and compliance issues and operate within the expense budget.

4. EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:

  • 2 years of experience as a bank teller or similar role
  • 2 years of experience in banking or similar industry
  • Bachelor’s degree/ BSc in Banking and Finance or other relevant fields

5.  SKILLIS, CAPABILITIES & PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:

  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Sound knowledge of banking principles.
  • Strong numerical abilities.
  • Excellent attention to detail i.e. getting things right the first time.
  • Good reporting skills.
  • Excellent sales skills
  • Good time management skills
