The combination of the First Quantum and Inmet assets has created one of the world’s leading copper producers with a geographically diversified portfolio of high-quality operations and development projects in eight countries across five continents.

With a strategic plan to produce more than 1 million tonnes per annum of copper within five years, the Company is poised to become the largest, widely-held pure-play copper producer and one of the top five copper producers in the world.

Key Responsibilities:

The specific tasks to be performed by the position holder will include;

  • This position will be required to adhere to all relevant requirements, policies, procedures and legal regulation pertaining to heal, safety, environment and quality, as well as finance, human resources and any other regulations as required by the Company.
  • Coordinates statutory compliance in the Engineering Department and assist other Departments by creating procedures and guidelines to ensure that Governmental regulations and Industry rules are met by the Company in order to produce copper and Gold metals within the set budget safely.
  • Coordinates information to keep the department up to date on new or revised regulations that may be relevant to running of the Engineering and Maintenance functions.
  • Responsible for ensuring incidents are kept to a minimum and participates in the investigations of incidents/accidents and a review of procedures and relevant logbooks.
  • Coordinates the Engineering Regulators and Government Inspectors who comes to site to inspect, examine and test or audit respective statutory equipment and personnel.
  • Coordinates the acquisition of licenses from the Engineering Institution of Zambia for Company and Engineering professionals; radiation, by licensing the Company and all radiation sources and X-rays site; ZWMA to license all standard weights and scales in use on site; NCC to issue licenses for the Company and relevant contractor on site.

Stock control

  • Ensure that stock levels of Statutory Compliance equipment spares and test equipment are maintained in the warehouse.
  • Create new stock for all critical items to ensure minimum effect on production in the event of a failure.

Tools and audit

  • Oversee the correct and safe usage of all hand tools within the Maintenance section.
  • Record and control replacement of tools used for testing and inspections.
  • Oversee maintenance of high safety standards on the condition and usage of all test equipment.

Training and development

  • Provide, schedule and coordinate all necessary training to comply with all safety standards and statutory compliance.
  • Identify needs for specialized training requirements within the section.

Transport

  • Ensure all requests for services are adhered to.
  • Enforce compliance by ensuring that no person is operating any equipment without an official permit.

Other duties

  • Other duties as directed by the Maintenance Manager.
  • Steel structure inspection and record keeping of these structures.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Exceptional knowledge of the Zambian Mining Regulations
  • Excellent English communication skills (read, write & speak)
  • Self-disciplined, motivated and organized
  • Exceptional skills in the ability to prioritize workload
  • Ability to work un-supervised on different tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to multi-task when executing different projects

Experience:

  • Minimum Eight (8) years’ experience in Mechanical Engineering (after obtaining qualifications).
  • Minimum of four years’ experience in a Fixed Plant Mining Environment.
  • Excellent knowledge of Mechanical and Electrical systems.
  • Able to read and understand Engineering drawings.
  • Knowledge of Mining, Industry and Environmental Regulations.
  • Leadership or supervisory skills.
  • Computer literate, in Microsoft Computer packages.

Qualification:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Registered and current member of the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ)
  • Registered as a professional Engineer at the Engineering Registration Board of Zambia (ERB)
  • A legal qualification will be an added advantage
  • Valid Zambian light vehicle driver’s license
