The combination of the First Quantum and Inmet assets has created one of the world’s leading copper producers with a geographically diversified portfolio of high-quality operations and development projects in eight countries across five continents.

With a strategic plan to produce more than 1 million tonnes per annum of copper within five years, the Company is poised to become the largest, widely-held pure-play copper producer and one of the top five copper producers in the world.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage and support network systems and services including designing, building, backup and recovery
  • Provide technical consultation in the design and development of infrastructure network systems to ensure a robust and stable environment
  • Develop and maintain all supporting technical documentation to facilitate consistency and quality of installations, system upgrades and recovery/ repair
  • Develop and implement processes to assist with problem management, change management and performance monitoring
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor and troubleshoot issues as they arise, including ad-hoc desktop or printer support as required
  • To complete wireless site surveys for both Point to Point links and Wireless LAN implementations
  • Supervise optical fibre splicing, dome joint installations, and testing & reporting of completed works
  • Maintain Ethernet and Fibre Optic structured cabling, infrastructure labelling and network documentation to standard required
  • Maintain and/or troubleshoot Ubiquiti Unifi AP and Unifi Air Fibre including channel optimization, radio interference and air optimization
  • Provide support for network infrastructure in an on-call rotation
  • Participate in formulating and implementing IT standards and policies to support the operational environment

Networks:

  • Daily health checks
  • Replace failed switches / AP’s
  • Ensure that all network documentation is up to date
  • Ensure that all work is captured using the ticketing system

Qualifications:

  • CCNA (required) and CCNP (preferable)
  • Cisco Wireless experience or certification (preferable)
  • Cisco VOIP experience or certification (preferable)
  • FOA Certified (preferable)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent

Experience & Skills:

 The Network Engineer will require knowledge, skills and experience in the following areas:

  • Strong Cisco networking skills in routing & switching, voice and wireless
  • Independent troubleshooting & administration of routers, switches, OLT, ONU
  • Experience with VLAN and spanning tree implementations
  • Diagnosing and troubleshooting issues within an IPv4 environment
  • Network documentation skills aligned to local and group IT requirements
  • Responds in a timely manner and cooperates with other members to achieve the team’s goals
  • Extensive networking knowledge and experience, preferably within in African mining environment
  • Good Analytical & Troubleshooting skills
  • Extensive experience in ticketing/helpdesk systems and business follow up
  • Adhering to and implementing Group ICT standards and policies
  • Good Written & Verbal Communication
  • Understanding of ITIL Processes
