Kagem Mining is seeking a remarkable candidate to join the team. in the position of

SAFETY OFFICER

Reporting to: Manager SHEQ

Job Purpose:

To participate in the establishment, management and monitoring of standards, processes, communications, training and systems to ensure all responsibilities associated with Health and Safety are adhered to.

Principle Accountabilities

  • Monitor and ensure that all Health & Safety policies, procedures, rules and regulations are adhered to and are regularly reviewed, updated and communicated.
  • Ensure the organisation meets its statutory obligations in all areas pertaining to health and safety.
  • Assist with the completion and regular review of risk assessments for all work equipment and operations.
  • Ensure that all accidents are documented, investigated and recommended corrective actions are implemented.
  • Carry out inspections, risk assessments, task observations in various workplaces and take appropriate action to ensure compliance.
  • Facilitate and conduct emergency drills and make sure all emergency equipment is in place and in good working order.
  • Participate in the development of health & safety policies, systems of work and procedures.
  • Identify health & safety training needs throughout the Company and make recommendations.
  • Participate in monthly meetings when required to report on relevant health & safety matters and track all agreed action points resulting from the meetings to see that they are completed within stipulated timeframes.
  • Keep up to date with all aspects of relevant health and safety legislation and communicate relevant changes to the business.
  • Respond to and investigate concerns and complaints from workers/employers and recommend appropriate action.
  • Monitor the performance of, workplace safety representatives.
  • Perform prescribed industrial hygiene surveys using technical equipment, evaluate results, and take appropriate action to ensure compliance.
  • Prepare various reports, documents and forms.
  • Provide regular reports to the Manager on relevant health and safety activities.
  • Any other reasonable duties which may be required by management from time to time.

Qualifications & Experience

  • A recognized Qualification in Occupational Health and Safety (or similar)
  • Related and appropriate practical experience ina mining environment
  • Full grade 12 School Certificate.
  • 5 years previous experience in such a similar role with demonstrated supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Excellent verbal, l,vritten communication, IT and presentation skills
  • Professional approach, coupled with strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent planning, organisational and time management skills
  • Effective handling of Health and Safety investigations
  • Experience of formulating, implementing and revising Health and Safety policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of and experience in the Zambian mining sector
  • Knowledge of and experience vvith ISC 45001/0HSAS 18001

Qualifications & Experience

  • Ability to prioritise and manage own workload
  • Ability to work on own initiative with minimum supervision
  • Excellent knowledge of Zambian Health and Safety legislation, especially Mining and Explosives Regulations
  • Valid unrestricted class B driver’s license
