Kariba Minerals Limited is a mining company and has long been a reliable source of high-quality Amethyst for major manufacturers of gemstone related products. The company is owned 100% by ZCCM Investment Holdings. The company’s market share is estimated at over 90% of the Amethyst originating from Zambia, and we are arguably the largest single Amethyst producer in the world. Presently, the company exports its products mainly to international markets. Worldwide, it is one of the oldest mines for semi-precious stones and one of the largest sources of quality amethysts. Kariba mine is based in Mapatizya which is approximately 110km from Kalomo in the Southern Province.

The company is therefore inviting for applications from highly motivated, result oriented, qualified and experienced persons to fill the following vacancies:

SALES & MARKETING MANAGER

Key Responsibilities

  • Planning and carrying out direct marketing and sales activities of KML’s products and services in accordance with the company’s strategic plan and agreed budgets.

  • Driving sales growth in the global markets including identification of new markets and execution of new ways to significantly grow market share.

  • Management of the sales, marketing and logistics department and achieving maximum sales revenue and volumes through correct product mix and timely execution of marketing programs.

  • Planning, organising and managing sales and marketing local and international events including expos, gemstone shows and auctions.

  • Working with sales agents to maximize sales revenue.

  • Preparing, maintaining and providing sales and marketing reports on an on-going basis.

  • Managing and controlling of the sales, marketing budget.

  • Ensuring speedy processing of export documents and delivery of products to the customers.

  • Coordinating with the Mine Manager, Product and Quality Assurance Manager on the alignment of mine production with the sales projections.

  • Undertake ongoing market research of the gemstone industry to detect market trends and related information for development of new products and strategies.

  • Make reasonable recommendations to improve sales from various potential markets.

  • Develop strong customer relationships and partnership through regular contacts and timely response to queries

  • Build KML’s corporate image and increase the company’s brand awareness.

  • Conduct product line planning and execution, including pricing strategy

  • Develop new products to meet customer requirements.

  • Updating and maintaining the company’s website and social media platforms.

  • Ensuring high customer satisfaction and undertaking constant customer liaisons.

  • Identifying training needs and provide supplemental training as needed by the sales and marketing team.

  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the company
  • KNOWLEDGE / EXEPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

    • Full grade 12 School certificate or equivalent.
    • Undergraduate degree in Sales & Marketing, Business Administration or related field.
    • Master’s Degree in Business studies will be an added advantage.
    • Certification in Gemmology or related field.
    • Minimum 5 years working experience in Sales and Marketing of Gemstones.
    • Ability to work under minimum supervision.
    • Solid computer skills and awareness of web-based marketing and social media.
    • An aptitude for quantitative analysis, strategic and tactical thinking, and detailed planning.
    • Knowledge of the latest gemstone and market trends, as well as projections for the future.
    • Evidence of ability to innovate and implement change successfully.
    • Exceptional communication and presentation skills.
    • Able to be persuasive and procure buy-in from clients.
    • Driven and committed to success while maintaining integrity.

    Salary: Negotiable

    Location: Lusaka and will be required to travel from time to time

    SAFETY OFFICER

    Key Responsibilities

  • Develop all the required documentation, operational checks and reports

  • Ensure compliance to mining regulations, explosive regulations, mines and minerals including corrective and preventive measures

  • Monitor the issuance, usage of PPE on the mine and maintain records

  • Provide HSE improvement proposals

  • Developing and implementing field location emergency response procedures and evacuation plans

  • Prepare written weekly and monthly HSE reports, statistics and presentations related to HSE performance

  • Monitor haul roads, speed limits and dust emissions

  • Preparation of mine signage

  • Prepare material and the teaching of first aid lessons to the miners and all contractors

  • Conduct pre-operational risk assessment on new site and design risk mitigation measures

  • Stop any unsafe acts or processes that seem dangerous or unhealthy

  • Review existing policies and measures and update according to legislation

  • Record and investigate incidents to determine causes

  • Test carry out alcohol testing

  • Monitor general behavior of staff and visitors

  • Review and analyze accidents and near miss accidents and making corrective action recommendations

  • Follow  and ensure that corrective actions are implemented where necessary and ensure that certification requirements are complied with

  • Any other duties as may be assigned by the company
  • KNOWLEDGE AND EXEPERIENCE REQUIRED:

    • Grade 12 Certificate coupled with a Bachelor’s Degree in Safety Management from a reputable institution and Certificate in First Aid
    • At least 3 years’ experience in a similar role
    • Experience in Safety administration in a mining environment is an added advantage
    • Knowledge of Mine Safety Regulations
    • Good Communications skills  (Oral and written);
    • Able to work in a diverse team environment and;
    • Able to engage, conduct diagnosis, analyze findings, generate options and build commitment to solutions.

    Salary: Negotiable with a flexible work pattern
