Food Production Manager-Textured Soy Protein (TSP), Cereals, and Snacks

A soon to open food production company in Zambia is looking for an experienced food production manager in a Textured Soy Protein (TSP), Cereals and Snack Factory.

Basic Objective:

To plan, organize and control production to ensure that goods are produced efficiently, on time, within budget and to high standard.

Responsibilities

  • Take responsibility for set up and erection of the plant
  • Co-ordinate plant design as well as the mechanical, auxiliary fittings and electrical work for the plants;
  • Overall in charge of production logistics and supply chain.

Future day to day work:

  • plan, implement and control the production schedule
  • determine and manage human and material resources to meet production targets
  • make decisions about equipment use, maintenance, modification and procurement
  • work out and implement standard operating procedures for production operations
  • ensure that standard operating procedures are adhered to;
  • ensure implementation and adherence to health and safety procedures;
  • set product quality standards;
  • monitor quality standards of products;
  • implement and enforce quality control and tracking programs to meet quality objectives;
  • analyze production and quality control to detect and correct problems;
  • determine and implement improvements to the production process;
  • prepare and maintain production reports;
  • monitor and review the performance of staff and organize necessary interventions for improvement;
  • estimate production costs (ensure cost minimization and optimum productivity);
  • set and manage production budgets;
  • ensure efficient collaboration and co-ordination between relevant departments including procurement, distribution and management;
  • oversee the implementation of ISO9001 & HACCP Code of Conduct;
  • inventory & warehouse management;
  • implement strict quality measures to ensure top line raw materials, packaging materials and finished products
  • imparting training to subordinates on quality, production and logistics.

Qualification and Experience:

  • A diploma in the following subjects: food science/technology, production engineering, processing engineering, materials science/technology; mechanical engineering; or any food processing qualifications and experience.
  • A degree will be highly advantageous
  • Knowledge and experience in production and manufacturing processes and techniques
  • Knowledge of raw materials
  • Knowledge of quality systems and standards
  • Knowledge of health and safety standards and compliance
  • Knowledge of process improvement techniques
  • Knowledge of engineering and technology principles and practices

  • Project management
  • Planning and organization skills to be able run and monitor the production process without supervision;
  • The ability to act decisively and solve staff or equipment-related problems;
  • The capacity to grasp concepts easily;
  • ICT literacy to deal with various technologies and programmes;
  • Attention to detail to ensure high levels of quality;
  • The ability to communicate clearly and persuasively with team, managers and clients;
  • Strong negotiation skills for getting materials within budget and at the right time;
  • The ability to work under pressure and motivate others to meet tight deadlines;
  • The ability to work in a logical, systematic manner.

Key competencies required (personal competencies)

  • Previous experience setting up plants in food sector (cereals, textured soy protein (TSP) & snacks preferred)
  • Experience of snack recipes, flavours, blending, ingredients and costings,
  • Knowledge of fryers and packing machines including process controls and efficiencies.
  • Sound knowledge and proven track record within snack production and packing operations.
  • Computer literate with IT understanding
