Location: Stocksbridge - commutable from Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley, Wakefield

Salary: £40,000 - £45,000

We are the largest recycler of Steel in the UK and through using Electric Arc Steelmaking, Vacuum Induction Melting, Mill processing and our dedicated service centres, we are able to produce and supply a variety of high-value precision-engineered products for Aerospace, Oil and Gas, Industrial Engineering, Bar and Narrow Strip.

A bit about the role:

We are looking for someone to join us a part of the Business Systems team, which is responsible for a reliable supply of IT services to our business. Your role as a Middleware/Integration Engineer will support, maintain and develop the current integration hub and B2B (in-bound and out-bound connection for internal and external target) systems.

You will have primary responsibility for operational activities of the middleware subset of the departments portfolio of systems

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
  • Actively monitoring the environment to prevent errors and ensure issues are identified early and corrected using various methods (including pre-written SQL queries and SCOM)
  • Identifying improvements that will enhance the availability and/or efficiency of the environment, developed directly or via clear specifications that can be delivered to colleagues/3rd parties.
  • You will be required to respond within SLA to incidents and problems using the service management tool and escalate issues accordingly.
  • Assisting the IT management team in the development of staff and technology to ensure continuous improvement of IT systems within the business.
  • Managing a number of approved schemes, undertaken directly, by colleagues or outsourced providers, ensuring they meet technical, financial and programme objectives, integrating such schemes into the existing systems infrastructure.
  • Being prepared to work outside normal hours to repair/maintain systems should an incident occur.
  • Participating in internal and external audits, whether directly relating to IT systems or to aspects of operations involving IT systems usage as required by Speciality Steels or external accreditation bodies or customers.
  • Ensuring work is complete to department standards, and assisting in the development and revision of those standards.
  • Ensuring personnel directly under your control including Speciality Steels and contractors are operating within and complying with Speciality Steel policies, and statutory Health, Safety and Environmental legislation.
To be successful within this role you will ideally have:
  • Degree or related experience in Software Engineering/Business Information Systems or related field.
  • Strong development experience using IBM Integration Bus (WebSphere Message Broker) and IBM MQ.
  • Infor ION experience is an advantage.
  • Experience installing and administering WebSphere Application Server (WAS) into Windows and Linux environments.
  • Experience in a multi-functional business environment.
  • Knowledge/experience or any of the following is an advantage - Oracle, SQL-Server, MS Access, C#, C++, PHP, Java.
  • Project Management Skills.
  • Strong analytical skills to understand the business requirements and design systems that will fully satisfy those requirements.
  • Have the ability to see the 'big picture' understanding how a proposed system will integrate into the overall IT structure and support the business.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Be self-motivated and dedicated to achieve the objectives set.
  • A clean driving licence and willingness to travel to sites within Speciality Steels.
