Description

The University of Maryland Baltimore with funding from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) will conduct the Zambia National Population HIV Impact Assessment (ZAMPHIA 2020).

ZAMPHIA 2020 will assess progress towards achievement of the UNAIDS 90-90-90 targets on national and subnational levels.    The data will be used to focus HIV services and resources to the areas of greatest need and help move Zambia closer to HIV epidemic control.

The University of Maryland Baltimore affiliate, Maryland Global Initiatives Corporation Zambia (MGIC Zambia) is currently inviting applications from interested persons, who meet the minimum requirements to apply to the key positions advertised. Project Duration is scheduled for eighteen (18) months and successful candidates will be offered employment for that period.

Logistics Lead

The Logistics Lead is responsible for coordinating the storage, transportation, and delivery of specimen/reagents/lab and survey supplies, including cold-chain and reagents.  The Logistics Lead will lead and provide technical and strategic direction to the ZAMPHIA 2020 health supply chain team in ensuring an uninterrupted supply of health and non-health commodities required in achieving the goals and objectives of the ZAMPHIA 2020 program.  He/she would ideally be a highly competent self-starter with strong ability to communicate, motivate and lead a team. Responsible for coordinating the storage, transportation, and delivery of specimen/reagents/lab and survey supplies, including cold-chain dependent reagents.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates and monitors supply chain operations
  • Develops a comprehensive warehousing and distribution plan
  • Recruits and coordinates logistics staff/company Provide supportive supervision, capacity building and mentorship to the health supply chain team
  • Coordinate the activities and functions of the health supply chain team to ensure an uninterrupted supply of commodities required on the ZAMPHIA 2020 grant
  • Organize and conduct training of program staff on logistics management.
  • Contribute to the quantification and forecasting needs for the program
  • Support the health Supply chain specialists to implement best practices in commodity management (e.g. storage, inventory management, waste drive, etc.) of health commodities and other related improvements and recommendations identified during assessments.
  • Ensures goods and assets are used effectively
  • Develops and implements cost effectiveness strategies
  • In conjunction with the Procurement Technical Lead, develop training materials, SOPs, manuals and work plans.
  • Prepares accurate management reports
  • Ensues that stock control system is up to date and ensure inventory accuracy maintained.

Qualifications:

  • Degree or Certifications in Supply Chain Management/Logistics, Master’s degree in Public Health, a bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy or a related field, Certificate in Logistics Management of Health Commodities or its equivalent
  • Minimum of ten (10) years relevant experience managing health supply chains on donor funded programs e.g. HIV, Malaria, etc.  with at least five (5) years managerial responsibility
