Description

This is a nationwide survey aimed assessing the prevalence and incidence of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection in the Zambian population, assessing the coverage and impact of HIV services at the population level, and characterizing HIV-related risk behaviors using a nationally-representative sample of adults aged 15 years and older.
ZamPHIA invites applications from suitable candidates to fill the following position.

Data Collector (Interviewer)

This position will primarily work as part of the Zamphia 2020 Field Team and collect valid
and accurate data within specified timelines, counsel consenting participants for HIV rapid
testing while maintaining high levels of professionalism and confidentiality.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Must be willing to participate in a structured training on fieldwork procedures before the pilot and survey implementation.
  • Collecting ALL required data in assigned Field Work Areas and within the designated time frame.
  • Must be willing and available when required to undergo training on the basics of HIV/AIDS, identification of sampled clusters, identifying eligible households and individuals, ethics and informed consent, use of objective interviewing techniques with adults and children, use of electronic data capture techniques, field logistics and conduct, map reading, and administration of the CSPro questionnaires and other subject areas as deemed necessary
  • Accompany Team Leader for community entry and engagement meetings
  • Visit selected households and approach participants for interviews as assigned by Team Leader
  • Counsel consenting participants for HIV testing and disclosure
  • Ensure ethical standards are adhered to and informed consent are properly administered
  • Conduct interview and biomarker consent procedures using tablets
  • Conduct interviews of eligible participants using electronic data capture techniques
  • Inform the Team Leader of interviews completed and partially completed daily
  • Counsel all participants who consent for HIV testing
  • Schedule return visits for any incomplete interviews and inform the Team Leader of any return visits scheduled
  • Ensuring high quality of data and ethical and moral conduct to collect accurate and valid information.
  • Maintain high levels of confidentiality throughout the survey
  • Adhering to ALL data collection Standard Operation Procedures as advised.
  • Safeguard assigned data collection equipment, keeping it in good working condition and charged, ready for data collection.
  • Collect all materials needed for fieldwork
  • Adhere to instructions from the Team Lead concerning field work.
  • Conduct must be professional, and behavior must be pleasant in dealing with the public.
  • Ensure all materials in custody are maintained with the highest level of safety and diligence
  • Be innovative and proactive in the field.
  • Work as a member of a team and attend daily, weekly and monthly team meetings

Qualifications;

  • Must have completed secondary school with a GCE Certificate or its equivalent
  • Minimum diploma in a relevant field
  • Certificate in HIV Voluntary Counseling and Testing
  • Minimum3 years’ work experience
  • Experience in providing Voluntary Counseling and Testing services. Experience with
    Home-based VCT will be an added advantage
  • Must have prior experience in large-scale, household-based surveys involving sensitive questions. Previous experience in HIV/AIDS programs/survey will be an added advantage
  • Knowledge of and practical experience in HIV community-based research and ethical requirements.
  • A sound understanding of HIV/AIDS surveys in resource constrained settings.
  • Must have a good disciplinary record
