APPLICATIONS ARE INVITED from suitably qualified and experienced Zambians to fill the vacant position of Environmental and Social Safeguard Specialist Officer at Zambia Mining Environmental Remediation and Improvement Project – Kabwe Municipal Council.

The Zambia Mining Environmental Remediation and Improvement Project is a World Bank financed project whose objective is to reduce mining and environmental health risks in Kabwe, Kitwe, Mufulira and Chingola

JOB DESCRIPTION AND SPECIFICATION

JOB TITLE: ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIAL SAFEGUARDS SPECIALIST

JOB PURPOSE: To support the Kabwe Municipal Council Project Implementation Unit in developing, Implementing and administering environmental and social safeguards related to project intervention in Kabwe.

MAIN DUTIES OR ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Identification and development of Environmental and Social Safeguards relevant to the Project
  • Review of Environmental and social safeguard specific reports
  • Ensure compliance of Project with Zambian and World Bank policy and regulatory guidelines on Environmental and Social Safeguards
  • Review of Environmental and Social Impact Assessments for remediation, rehabilitation and livelihood project interventions to ensure compliance with Zambian and World Bank standards
  • Review and update of Safeguards policies and legislation to ensure interventions are sustainable

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIREMENT

a) Minimum Secondary Education:

Grade Twelve School Certificate

b) Minimum Vocational/Professional Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science in Natural Sciences, Environmental Sciences or any Engineering field

c) Minimum Relevant Pre-job Experience:

Minimum of five (5) years post qualification working experience on Environmental and Social Impact Assessment.
Experience in donor funded projects will be an added advantage;

d) Communication skills:

(i) Written Skills

Must possess excellent writing skills

(ii) Oral Skills

Must possess good oral communication skills

e) Other skills/Attributes:

  • Good communication skills;
  • Computer literate with skills in at Excel, Word, Power point,
  • Microsoft Office;
  • Ability to be a good team player;
  • Self-starter:
  • Ability to work under minimum supervision;
  • Ability to maintain good relationships.
