Mabiza Resources Limited (MRL) is subsidiary of Consolidated Nickel Mines Plc (CNM) which has partnered with Jinchuan to operate the Munali Nickel Mine, located 75 km south of Lusaka in Mazabuka, Southern Province.
The mine is a modern, world class facility with fully mechanized underground operations. To support this vision, Munali Nickel Mine seeks to employ experienced and qualified individuals in the following positions:

1. HEAD MECHANICAL MAINTENANCE (x1)

This position reports to the Superintendent Mine Mechanical

Purpose of this position

To carry out all Head Mechanical Maintenance functions at Munali Nickle Mine as outlined in the Key performance areas.

Key Performance Areas / Indicators (KPA/Is):

1. SAFETY

The Head Mechanical Maintenance shall be responsible for and oversee:

  • Preparing and implementing detailed maintenance and workshop work procedures and practises ensuring that activities are carried out safely.
  • Reviewing task analysis with special reference to potential loss and safety hazards including identifying critical tasks to ensure proper safe efficient working conditions.

2. PLANNING/PRODUCTION/ PERFORMANCE

The Head Mechanical Maintenance shall be responsible for and oversee:

  • Recommending alternative maintenance frequencies based on equipment history or as a result of regular vibration monitoring surveys in pursuit of optimisation.
  • Ensures that problem solving maintenance services are provided efficiently and expediently by subordinates.
  • Keep enhancing equipment performance as per milestones

3. FINANCE COST AND ASSEST MANAGEMENT

The Head Mechanical Maintenance shall be responsible for and oversee the following:

  • Achieve budgetary controls systems are implemented and ensure operations are within budget.
  • Performance Monitoring of the performance and maintenance cost for various mechanical and workshop equipment includes providing recommendations to enhance maintainability, alleviate operations anomalies and minimize maintenance cost of such equipment.
  • Preparing preliminary budget estimates for a capital and operating requirement includes provision of annual manpower and contactor utilization forecasts.
  • Ensuring that strict control is exercised over expenditures, authorizes low cost fabrication or refurbishment of plant requirements or spare parts when justified to reduce operating costs and provides written justifications in advance of any variances with approved budgets.

Academic Qualifications, Experience & Required Skills

  • Grade 12 School Certificate, Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
  • At least 9 years’ experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of a wide range of heavy rotating and stationary equipment and 4 years should have been in a similar senior supervisory position in a Mining Industry.
  • Member of Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ)
  • Competent in incident/accident investigation and proven ability to deliver results and act as a change agent.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team safely and improve team safety awareness.
  • High level understanding of all relevant legislation affecting the employment and safety of persons in the mining industry in Zambia.
  • Good computer skills with the ability to use integrated management. systems, word processing, presentation and spread sheet applications.

2. HEAD ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION & CONTROL (x1)

This position reports to the Superintendent OHSE

Purpose of this position

To support the OHSEQ Superintendent in implementing the specific OHSE strategies, policies, process & systems for Environment and Quality Assurance of the mine in line with MRL overall strategic plan.

Key Performance Areas / Indicators (KPA/Is):

1. SAFETY

  • Effectively manage each of the individual areas (i.e. Environment & Quality) to achieve required targets, quality and efficiencies
  • Maintaining the company quality control and management system
  • Ensuring compliance with all statutory requirements and obligations as regards OHSE
  • Identifying and Implementing of corrective measures in areas of operations.
  • Ensuring the promotion of OHSE awareness and also ensuring compliance with all statutory requirements and obligations as regards OHSE
  • Conducting OHSE investigations and ensure accurate implementation of follow up actions by making sure that environmental and safety statutory requirements are met

2. PLANNING/PRODUCTION/PERFORMANCE

  • Provide input to the business plan, Provide Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan.
  • Implementation of set targets for operations and monitor performance.
  • Ensure that the goals of the department are aligned with those of the organisation and ensuring Plans are developed and in place for weekly, monthly etc

3. FINANCIAL, COST & ASSET MANAGEMENT

  • Participate in budgeting process and cost control process.
  • Ensuring appropriate asset management regime is in place and practiced to optimised.

Academic Qualifications, Experience & Required Skills

  • BEng. Environmental Engineering Degree from a reputable University.
  • Minimum Five post-graduation year’s experience in a SHEQ management role preferably in mining industry.
  • Must have knowledge of ISO/OSHAS 9001,14001,16001 & 18001 standards and be a Member of EIZ and Registered Engineer.
  • Knowledge on environmental mine legislation and knowledge on Contemporary safety and environmental management practices in mining industry.
  • Computer literate, leadership and safety consciousness.

3. HEAD ELECTRICAL AND INSTRUMENTATION ENGINEER (x1)

This position reports to the Superintendent Electrical & Instrumentation

Purpose of this position

To carry out all Head Electrical and Instrumentation Engineer functions at Munali Nickle Mine as outlined in the Key performance areas.

Key Performance Areas / Indicators (KPA/Is):

1. SAFETY

  • Sectional workforce behaviour towards safety issues
  • Implement risk assessment tools and controls and implement approved procedures & standard work systems implemented and functional;
  • Thorough incident investigation processes available and ensure overall safety statistics in section

2. PLANNING/PRODUCTION/PERFORMANCE

  • Implement engineering plans suitable for the business operation and mining resource optimization and implement business plans and contingency plans for engineering functions.
  • Implement and manage projects that will achieve production targets or improvements;

3. FINANCIAL, COST & ASSET MANAGEMENT

  • Recommendations of capital requirements to the Electrical/Instrumentation Superintendent;
  • Review engineering costs before and after the month has finished to ensure costs are within budgeted figures and Implement cost control measures to address cost variance to the approved budget.
  • Provide leadership on cost reduction programs & regularly liaise with Engineering officials and ensure jobs are in compliance with the company standards & statutory requirements (mining Regulations);

Academic Qualifications, Experience & Required Skills

  • Minimum Diploma in Engineering, Full knowledge of PLCs (Siemens and Allen Bradley), Conversant with Scada software and able to programme.
  • Minimum Five years’ experience in a role preferably in mining industry.
  • Enthusiasm, good technical abilities, Innovation and Team working skills
  • The ability to work well under pressure.
  • The motivation to work extra hours when necessary.

4. ARTISAN – HEAVY EQUIPMENT REPAIR (H.E.R) – TRACKLESS

This position reports to the Foreman H.E.R

Purpose of this position

To carry out preventive maintenance and repairs on trackless mobile machinery in line with documented work instructions

Job Specification

  • Servicing and repairing of Trackless mining equipment
  • Maintenance of LHD’s, face drills, roof bolters, longhole drills, dump trucks and Utility Vehicles
  • Kitting, picking and controlling of spare parts
  • Complying with the health and safety policy and practices of the company
  • Investigate, diagnose and perform trade related maintenance and repair of equipment and machinery according to the maintenance requirements
  • Communicate with Supervisors to inform on maintenance activities performed and re-start of equipment

Academic Qualifications, Experience & Required Skills

  • Full School Certificate
  • Craft/Advanced Technician Certificate in Heavy Equipment Repairs
  • Experience in a Trackless Mining environment (Eprioc Equipment) added advantage
  • Minimum five (5) years relevant work experience

5. ARTISAN – ENGINE SPECIALIST (TRACKLESS)

This position reports to the Foreman H.E.R

Purpose of this position

To carry out preventive maintenance and repairs on trackless mobile equipment engines in line with documented work instructions

Job Specification

  • Servicing and repairing of earth moving equipment engines
  • Maintenance of Cummins, Deutz and Detroit engines of LHD’s, face drills, roof bolters, longhole drills and dump trucks.
  • Kitting, picking and controlling of spare parts
  • Complying with the health and safety policy and practices of the company
  • Investigate, diagnose and perform trade related maintenance and repair of Cummins, Deutz and Detroit engines
  • Communicate with Supervisors to inform on maintenance activities performed and re-start of equipment

Academic Qualifications, Experience & Required Skills

  • Full School Certificate
  • Craft/Advanced Technician Certificate in Heavy Equipment Repairs
  • Experience in Cummins, Deutz and Detroit added advantage

6. LEADING HAND – DRILL RIGS

This position reports to the Foreman H.E.R

Purpose of this position

To carry out preventive maintenance and repairs on drilling Rigs in line with documented work instructions

Job Specification

  • Servicing and repairing of Drilling Rigs
  • Maintenance of face drills, roof bolters and longhole drills.
  • Kitting, picking and controlling of spare parts
  • Complying with the health and safety policy and practices of the company
  • Investigate, diagnose and perform trade related maintenance and repair on Simba 1354 and Boomer 282
  • Communicate with Supervisors to inform on maintenance activities performed and re-start of equipment

Academic Qualifications, Experience & Required Skills

  • Full School Certificate
  • Craft/Advanced Technician Certificate in Heavy Equipment Repairs
  • Experience in a Trackless Mining environment (Eprioc Equipment) added advantage

7. LEADING HAND – LOAD AND HAUL

This position reports to the Foreman H.E.R

Purpose of this position

To carry out preventive maintenance and repairs on Loaders and Dump Trucks in line with documented work instructions

Job Specification

  • Servicing and repairing of loaders and dump trucks
  • Maintenance of ST14, MT431, MT42 and MT54
  • Kitting, picking and controlling of spare parts
  • Complying with the health and safety policy and practices of the company
  • Investigate, diagnose and perform trade related maintenance and repair on Simba 1354 and Boomer 282
  • Communicate with Supervisors to inform on maintenance activities performed and re-start of equipment

Academic Qualifications, Experience & Required Skills

8. ARTISAN – DIAGNOSTICS HEAVY EQUIPMENT REPAIR (H.E.R) – TRACKLESS

Purpose of this position

To carry out equipment diagnostics on drilling Rigs/Loaders and Dump Trucks in line with documented work instructions

Job Specification

  • Servicing and repairing of Trackless mining equipment
  • Maintenance of LHD’s, face drills, roof bolters, longhole drills, dump trucks and Utility Vehicles
  • Kitting, picking and controlling of spare parts
  • Complying with the health and safety policy and practices of the company
  • Investigate, diagnose and perform trade related maintenance and repair of equipment and machinery according to the maintenance requirements

9. ARTISAN – METAL FABRICATOR

This position reports to the Foreman H.E.R

Purpose of this position

To carry out metal fabrication, boiler makings and welding works on trackless mining equipment

Job Specification

  • Study drawings, plans or patterns of structures to be repaired or made.
  • Study drawings, plans or patterns of structures to be repaired or made.
  • Mark shapes and other measurements on metal.
  • Form metal plate and sections using heavy machinery.
  • Join metal parts together by Tack Welding
  • Perform limited Welding.
  • Smooth edges by grinding.
  • Use gas cutting equipment or heating equipment on metal.
  • Manhandling of steel
  • Handling hand tools

  • Full School Certificate
  • Craft/Advanced Technician Certificate in Metal Fabrication
  • Experience in a Trackless Mining environment added advantage

10. TOOLS STOREMAN

This position reports to the Foreman H.E.R

Purpose of this position

To carry out metal fabrication, boiler makings and welding works on trackless mining equipment

Job Specification

  • Support the service operation by the control and record keeping of the issue, return and calibration of general and special tools as well as the issuing and control of consumables from the tool store
  • Control Tool quality
  • Ensure Tool availability
  • Planning and budgeting of tools
  • Monitor sectional tool requirements
  • Control Tool management system
  • Procurement, repair and calibration of tooling
  • Audit Tool store
