1. JOB TITLE

Project Manager for the North Swaka Trust (NST) Limited, Mkushi, Zambia.

 

2. LOCATION

North Swaka and Mkushi Headwater Forest Reserves (NS&MHFR), Mkushi, Zambia.

 

3. OBJECTIVE

To design, develop, implement, and maintain the North Swaka and Mkushi Headwaters Forest Reserves Community Reforestation and Conservation Project. To ensures the successful, financially sustainable development of the Core and Buffer Zones in a transparent, accountable and ethical manner, overseeing the Core Zone Conservation, Buffer Zone Community and Administration Managers.

 

4. POSTION IN THE ORGANISATION

Reporting to the Directors and managing the Core Zone Conservation, Buffer Zone Community and Administration Managers.

 

5. DUTIES

·        Develop up from ground roots and manage a Sustainable Reforestation and Conservation Project in and around the North Swaka and Mkushi Headwaters Forest Reserves.

·        Development a financially sustainable business that meets the requirements of the laws of Zambia and of the Investor.

·        Ensure the protection and development of the Core Zone in accordance with the Forestry Act of 2015.

·        Work closely with Forestry Department Personnel to ensure the Act is upheld in the Core Zone.

·        Ensure the protection and development of the Core Zone through the financially sustainable development of the community by way of community engagement and the creation of alternative forms of environmentally sustainable income generation.

·        Examples of environmentally sustainable community income generation include honey production and marketing, agricultural training and input scheme, agricultural produce value addition and marketing, silviculture nursery and plantations, countryside stewardship scheme, carpentry, wild fruits and mushrooms harvesting and marketing, sustainable charcoal production, alternative sustainable energy production to name a few.

·        Facilitate conservation enterprise and partnerships, especially within the forestry and tourism sector, for the development of revenue streams.

·        Contribute to the development of annual and 5-year work plans, budgets, reporting and monitoring systems for the Core and Buffer Zones.

·        Build and maintain positive relationships, liaison and collaboration with chiefs and district authorities locally and with relevant Ministries, civil society and partners locally and nationally.

·        Coordinate, manage and monitor the Core Zone Conservation, Buffer Zone Community and Administration Managers.

·        Develop and manage the Human Resources department for all of NST’s departments/ sections.

·        Ensure that all staff under your supervision are trained diligently to ensure they carry out their job in a safe and efficient manner.

·        Develop and implement the payment for Watershed Services Scheme with the Mkushi Farmers and LHPC, which has already been initiated.

·        Develop a Baseline Study as a starting point and subsequently carry out annual monitoring to ensure the development and improvement of Bio Diversity in the Core Zone.

·        Develop a comprehensive Carbon Assessment Report of the Core Zone in line with International Standards and monitor annually with the aim of ensuring its growth.

·        Develop annual Financial Reports that track the development and viability of each Zone and any other standalone sections/ businesses that fall under the Zones.

·        Develop a system of collection and analysis of information, to monitor and evaluate the impact and outcomes of the project’s activities.

·        Manage and supervise all construction of infrastructure on the Project.

·        Manage and coordinate all machinery operations on the Project.

·        Manage and supervise maintenance of infrastructure and machinery on the Project.

·        Ensure responsible use and care of any project assets and equipment.

·        All operations to be carried out neatly, to a high standard and in a cost conscious manner.

·        Adhere to annual budgets, following NST financial management policy and procedures for proper and transparent use of project funds.

·        Perform any other duties that may be delegated from time to time.
