TERMS OF REFERENCE – BOARD GOVERNANCE BEST PRACTICES TRAINING

1. Background Information

SOS Children Villages Zambia is a child welfare and developmental Organization which provides long term family based care and family strengthening services to children who have lost parental care and those at risk of losing parental care respectively. SOS Children’s Villages Zambia operates in four locations of Lusaka, Kitwe, Livingstone and Chipata supporting 760 children in the Family Based Care (FBC) programmes and 8,400 children, 1,790 care-givers and 1,217 young adults through the Family Strengthening Programmes (FSP) working in 21 communities.

2. Purpose of the Assignment

The consultant will provide half day training from 08:30 to 13: 00hours, to the Board of Trustees of SOS CV Zambia covering the following topics;

  • Board governance oversight,
  • Board and executive relations and
  • Creating progressive alliances.

5. Expected outputs

The successful consultant(s) shall be expected to deliver the following in order for SOS Children’s Villages Zambia to make informed decisions;

  • Better policy oversight of programs delivery
  • Enhanced board executive relations

6. Expected Deliverables

  • Draft report on soft copy presented for review
  • 1 bound hard copies of final report (for the Board of Trustees)

7. Timeframe of the Assignment

The successful consultant(s) shall be engaged for the duration of half day to undertake the task on 21st March 2019

8. Qualifications, experience and skills

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration or Social Sciences
  • 15 years of executive working experience 10 of which must have been at board interaction level
  • Extensive presentation experience of high level Board training interventions
  • Ability to produce well written, analytical reports
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative data analysis skills
