Reporting to: Maintenance Supervisor

Purpose of Job:

Responsible for mixing paints, matching colours, preparing surfaces, and applying paint to wall surfaces, and perform touch-ups or coordinate large painting assignments related to the centre requirements.

Main Responsibilities

• Preparing painting surfaces by washing walls, repairing holes, or removing old paint.
• Mixing, matching, and applying paints and other finishes to various surfaces.
• Providing decorative and finishes painting for the Centre.
• Planning and prepare painting work in an efficient and effective manner.
• Preparing the surrounding area for painting by covering with cloth or plastic to prevent messes.
• Moving furniture and equipment as necessary to reach the entire surfaces.
• Calculating the amount of materials and time required for an assignment.
• Removing fixtures such as door knobs and light switch covers before painting.
• Choosing paint, brushes, and other supplies from vendors.
• Cleaning up supplies and replacing fixtures when task assignment is completed.
• Adhere to all health and safety precautions.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the Supervisor

Qualifications and Experience

• Grade 9/Grade 12 Certificate
• Craft Certificate in Painting and Decorating from a recognised institution is an added advantage.
• At least three (3) years relevant work experience (Grade 9) / at least two (2) years relevant work experience (Grade 12).

Key Attributes and Skills

• Excellent knowledge of painting material and how to select, mix and apply them.
• Ability of using appropriate painting tools.
• Good basic numerical skills for calculating materials, surfaces and equipment required.
• Manual dexterity with excellent balance to work on scaffolds and, ladders.
• Ability to understand colour theory and various finish types.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Exceptional sense of creativity.
• Strong ability to follow both written and verbal instructions.
