Description

The Systems Analyst will provide technical analysis, design, installation, maintenance,configurations, training and modification of business information systems.

They will support a large functional areas such as the University ERP, Bulk SMS/USSD Messaging Aggregation System, Payment Gateway and Payroll System.

They will play a crucial role in providing technical foundation for a variety of operations,project leadership,supervision, directing and integrating the work of others.

They will work independently under overall project objectives and requirements; notifies supervisor of progress and/or complications. Primary constraints are those imposed by the need for compatibility with existing systems and programs.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and modify complex systems and/or design and develop integrated subsystems. Guide users in formulating requirements; analyse resulting user proposals and conducts feasibility studies.

  • Recommend optimum approach, advise on alternatives and on the implications of new or revised data processing systems.

  • Manage application software, application infrastructure and third party application environments in the assigned field. This includes installation, upgrades and patches, tuning, creating links and interfaces between systems, developing application-specific security, performance monitoring and trouble-shooting.

  • Test, maintain, and monitor system processes using in-house and third party- tools. Work must be coordinated with other analysts to ensure integration between systems.

  • Perform problem analysis to resolve system or application issues. Performs complex diagnosis of problems, providing solutions within area of responsibility, and/or through consulting with ITS team members; coordinates implementation of fixes and enhancements. Provides backup for other analysts as required. Responds to critical issues during off hours when necessary.

  • Design, write, test, implement, and maintain software, including tools for testing and delivery of distributed applications. Creates and maintains system documentation.

    Provides project leadership and supervision, directing and integrating the work of other analysts and technical personnel. Develops project plans, organizes and leads project teams, monitors progress, and evaluates effectiveness.

  • Develop and manage internal procedures, tools, and document to provide a high level of application integrity and availability and to ensure timely, effective support. This includes writing scope documents, managing source code, and developing technical support standards and procedures.

  • Coordinate work with systems, database, and network administrators, Zynle’s Client Support, Training Team and Help-desk.

  • Support users through technical support of the applications, developing procedures and reporting tools, facilitating and coordinating training and other technical support.

  • Create an environment that promotes end-user self-sufficiency.

  • Assists the database administrator in enhancing systems by creating database objects, maintaining security, and migrating and managing data.

  • Assist server administrators by configuring and managing installed applications.

  • Plan Systems Development work in response to planned changes in infrastructure and vendor application support.

  • Reconcile vendor driven enhancements with user requested improvements to determine appropriate level of vendor vs. in-house work necessary to meet user needs. Manages application life cycles by using key needs and upgrade timelines to recommend and schedule projects.

  • Maintain on-going relationships with vendors.

  • Conduct product evaluations, participates in vendor selection, negotiates price and support options, and fosters vendor partnerships.

  • Stay current with technological developments in software development, systems and application support, as well as management and user support practices. This includes reading publications, participating in mail lists and on-line communities, attending conferences and workshops, and maintaining relationships with colleagues at other colleges and universities.
  • Minimum Qualifications

  • Degree in a computer-related discipline required.

  • Technical experience related to the area of assignment may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.

  • Two years of systems analysis experience to include supervision of others or lead responsibilities is required.

  • Requires competence in all phases of systems analysis techniques, concepts and methods.

  • Knowledge of: available system software, hardware and the regulations, structure, techniques and management practices of one or more subject-matter areas; relational database management and/or web development including CPU performance tuning, ancillary utilities, multiple operating systems, compilers, security procedures, and disaster recovery methodologies.

  • Ability to configure systems to be consistent with institutional policies/procedures and communicate technical and complex information both orally and in writing; influence others toward a stated objective.
