Provides policy research and reporting for the Political/Economic (P/E) Section, especially as lead for civil society; labor; and environmental, science, technology, and health (ESTH) issues, drafts several Congressionally-mandated annual reports, researches and drafts political and economic cables, collects and distributing within the interagency official biographies for senior Zambian officials, provides logistical support for events and VIP visitors, acts as Grants Officer Representative on numerous P/E-managed grants, and supplies other administrative support, as needed.

Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements:

EXPERIENCE: Five or more years prior experience with political, economic, government, administrative, and/or research work is required.

JOB KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of the political and economic environment in Zambia. Familiarity with major political parties, labor movements, politicians, civil society groups, major social figures, media outlets, political and economic history is required.

Education Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Political Science, International Relations, Law, Government, Economics or Media and Journalism is required.

Evaluations:

LANGUAGE: Level IV English is required (this may be tested). Level III in a major local language – including Bemba, Nyanja, Lozi, Chewa, or Tonga – is required.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Extensive experience in Microsoft Office to include Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required. Ability to perform research using the internet is required. Telephone skills and etiquette required to engage interlocutors, make appointments, and maintain industry and government contacts. Presentation and public speaking skills are also required.
